Boca Raton, Fla., – August 28, 2012—Bluegreen Vacations, a leader in the vacation ownership industry, today announced its continued participation in the SOS Children’s Villages annual “Back to School and Ready” Campaign, for the fifth straight year. From August 1st-15th, the Bluegreen Employee Action Resource (BEAR) Team collected and delivered donations of school supplies to the foster care neighborhood in Coconut Creek based on a wish list provided by their children. Through Bluegreen associates’ generous donations, children in Coconut Creek, FL, received an assortment of school necessities, including spiral notebooks, glue sticks, mechanical pencils, pens and more. Kristine Lenza, an executive assistant with Bluegreen and BEAR team member, initiated the relationship between Bluegreen and SOS Children’s Charities. She also heads up the collections for the Back to School and Ready Campaign.
“I learned about SOS through my previous employer, and when I came to Bluegreen and realized what a philanthropic company it is, I thought it would be wonderful to be able to do something for a local charity like SOS.” said Lenza. “The thing I like most about SOS is that the children are able to stay in the village until they are 18 years old and get to have a sense of “home”, unlike other foster systems where the children may get bounced from family to family and never really know where their next “home” may be. I also like the fact that if there are siblings they can stay together in the village.”
SOS Children’s Villages has become the largest non-denominational children’s care provider in the world with more than 500 Villages in 132 countries with over 60,000 children in the program. The Florida Village opened in 1993 and has since helped raise more than 250 boys and girls who were removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.
The BEAR Team is dedicated to supporting and enriching Bluegreen’s culture in Boca Raton by continuously improving associate morale through engaging social activities and recognition programs. In addition, they support non-profit organizations, as well as charitable events and activities, as important ways to give back to the communities in which Bluegreen does business and to the people and organizations that patronize their businesses.
“I love going to drop off the school supplies for the kids,” said Lenza. “We all remember as a child how exciting it was to have new school supplies, so it’s nice to know that Bluegreen associates help them get to experience that too and be ‘Back to School and Ready’.”
